The European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) has concluded its review of the known risk of pneumonia associated with inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) medicines when used to treat COPD.

A second analysis of data from real-world study PATHOS, published recently in the British Medical Journal, shows that treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients with budesonide/formoterol was associated with a lower incidence of pneumonia and pneumonia-related death, compared to treatment of COPD patients with fluticasone/salmeterol.
