Tallaght Hospital plans to undertake four more surveys with different questions this year in its X-Ray Department, Emergency Department, Paediatric Inpatients and Paediatric Outpatients.

The Department of Health has said it will be consulting widely on the best way to get the planned patient advocacy service up and running within the time frame set by HIQA.

The recently launched Hepatitis C Partnership — a collaboration of interested stakeholders in the area of hepatitis C — has been set up to promote testing, advocate for equitable access to treatment and promote various prevention messages against the viral infection.

A Patient Advocacy Service will be established that will be “fully independent of the HSE”, and the National Maternity Strategy will be published by the end of the year, Minister for Health Dr Leo Varadkar has pledged.

The Minister for Health has suggested that some of those working in the health service may inadvertently cause reputational damage to their own hospital or service in an attempt to advocate for patients.
