Letter: GPs should take over HPV vaccinations

Dear Editor, We hear that the uptake of the HPV vaccine is down to 70 per cent due to irrational fears reminiscent of the MMR vaccine. Why not contract out HPV vaccination to the GP? The fee would have to be an incentive unlike the current paltry fee for influenza vaccination. The advantages are obvious: 1. GPs know their patients, unlike public health doctors. They are consequently better placed to persuade uptake. 2. It’s convenient, as they can administer the vaccine five days a week all year round, even during school holidays. 3.
