IMO flags safety concerns of cuts

The impact of political financial decisions on patient safety must be recognised, the IMO has told the European Commission.   Healthcare services in Ireland have been subject to successive budget cuts over the past five years, government expenditure on health has fallen by more than €1.5 billion and there is in excess of 11,000 fewer people employed in the health service.   “Under-resourcing and under-staffing are regularly cited as contributing to major adverse events.
