HSE purchasing cancer service from Beacon

The HSE is now purchasing radiation therapy from the private sector for Dublin cancer patients. The HSE currently purchases a stereotactic ablative radiotherapy service from the Beacon Hospital for selected patients with early stage non-small cell lung cancer. However, the St Luke’s Centre at St James’s Hospital has recently started treating a proportion of these patients using very similar technology and will be able to manage all of these patients over time, said the HSE’s National Clinical Lead for Radiation Oncology, Dr Jerome Coffey.
