€300,000 in counterfeit drugs seized by IMB

More than 100,000 illegal prescription medicines worth almost €300,000 have been detained this month. The Irish Medicines Board (IMB), Revenue’s Customs Service and An Garda Síochána have confirmed that they detained 101,182 tablets and capsules worth over €297,557 in one week in Ireland as part of Operation Pangea VII — an international week of action targeting the online sale of counterfeit and illegal medicines.  The INTERPOL coordinated initiative from May 13 to 20 resulted in 239 arrests worldwide with some 10,600 illegal websites being closed down through removal of online payment facilities or domain name registry.
