Weight loss after midlife linked with mild cognitive impairment

Increasing weight loss per decade as people age from midlife to their elderly years is associated with an increased risk of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), research suggests. MCI is a prodromal stage of dementia with 5-15 per cent of people progressing to dementia every year. Changes in body mass index (BMI) and weight have been associated with an increased risk of dementia but overall findings have been inconclusive, the authors said.
