Growing old disgracefully and having fun may well be the key to a long life according to a new study, which has found that sustained enjoyment of life over several years in older age is associated with lower mortality. The study in the Christmas issue of The BMJ found that the longer an individual reported enjoying life, the lower their risk of death. Previous studies have shown that subjective well-being (feelings of enjoyment and satisfaction with life) is associated with greater longevity, but these studies measured wellbeing on a single occasion, and the importance of sustained wellbeing is not known.…
