‘Dying for a tan’ still a factor in melanomas

Sunbed use is responsible for more than 3,400 cases of melanoma in Europe every year, delegates attending the 2017 European Association of Dermatology and Venerology (EADV) Congress were told. The 26th EADV Congress which took place from September 13 to 17, in Geneva, Switzerland, also heard that ultraviolet (UV) exposure was the most prominent risk factor associated with melanoma. It is estimated more than half (approximately 65%) of melanomas worldwide can be attributed to UVR exposure, a portion of which is due to sunbed use.
