Moves could prevent 1,900 VTE deaths a year

A new group of leading Irish clinicians has called for the introduction of mandatory assessment with appropriate thromboprophylaxis of all patients on admittance to hospital and possible fines for non-compliance, in an effort to reduce preventable deaths from hospital-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE).
