The Irish Haemophilia Society (IHS) has accepted that a lifetime deferral from donating blood for men who have sex with men (MSM) is “at this stage disproportionate”, but the representative body for haemophiliacs maintains that the replacement temporary ban should preferably be as long as at least five years given the risk of emerging infections.
