IMT scoops award for top website

Irish Medical Times has been crowned Website of the Year at the Periodical Publishers Association of Ireland Awards (PPAI).

The award was presented to editor Terence Cosgrave at a gala dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel last Thursday night. It’s a huge achievement for the site which has only been in existence in its current form since February 2008.

“This wasn’t the work of one or two individuals – a lot of people contributed to the success of the site and this award,” said IMT editor Terence Cosgrave. “I’d particularly like to thank our colleagues at RBI in Quadrant House who provided so much backup and support throughout the year. This award is as much theirs as ours.”

IMT relaunched its website based on cutting-edge blogging technology earlier this year, and it quickly paid off with the site attracting 20,000 visitors a month.

“We have found that up-to-the-minute news updates are what drives traffic to our website,” said online content manager Gary Culliton. “Our Irish health news has also carved out a niche through prominent positioning on Google in particular. This award reflects the extent to which IMT, in addition to its pre-eminence as a specialist publication, is now a force in national media in Ireland,” he added.

IMT.ie contains all the content of the print edition of Irish Medical Times and posts medical news stories on a daily basis. It’s also home to Viscera blog, a medical events diary, classified advertisements section and photographs from the print edition of Irish Medical Times. It is also one of the most popular sites in Ireland for medical jobs.
