IMO 2009 conference to address child protection

Representatives of the medical, social services and legal professions will address the issue of child protection at this year’s IMO AGM in Killarney.
Speakers have been confirmed for the second scientific seminar on Friday April 17, and will include: Dr Nick van der Spek, Consultant Paediatrician, Cavan General Hospital; Ineke Durville, President Elect, Irish Association of Social Workers; and John O’Connor, O’Connor Solicitors, Dublin.


The first scientific seminar at the conference in the Hotel Europe will be on ‘Mental Health Services — Challenges and Solutions’. Speakers at the Thursday afternoon session will include: Dr Justin Brophy, President, College of Psychiatry of Ireland; Carl O’Brien, Social Affairs Correspondent with The Irish Times; and a patient advocate.
Speakers for the final scientific session on ‘The Role of Medicine in Sport’, scheduled for Saturday April 18, have yet to be confirmed by the IMO.
