HSE National Director of Finance Liam Woods is overseeing Brian Gilroy’s old role of National Director, Integrated Services — Reconfiguration along with the responsibility for Estates, while an ongoing Executive search takes place for a replacement for Seán McGrath, National Director of Human Resources, Irish Medical Times understands.
McGrath will remain in his current post until that time.
The Minister for Health Dr James Reilly, who announced three new appointments and a departure from the Board of the Executive last week, indicated that he had also requested Gilroy — who has moved to a new role with RTÉ — to remain on the Board, despite his departure from the HSE.
The new appointments are comprised of: Jim Breslin, Secretary General of the Department of Children and Youth Affairs; Frances Spillane, Head of the National Human Resource and Work Force Planning Unit in the Department of Health; and Tony O’Brien, Chief Operating Officer of the Special Delivery Unit (SDU), who replaces Dr Martin Connor on the Board.
The Minister for Health said that the new appointments were temporary measures, as the Government moved to introduce new legislation to establish a new directorates structure within the Executive.
