The UK government has decided not to introduce laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) deregulation from October 2008. However, the proposals are still under consideration.
The UK Government has confirmed that it has not yet decided to go ahead with proposed plans to deregulate class 3B and 4 lasers and IPL treatments.
The deregulation does not appear in the Private and Voluntary Health Care (England) Amendment Regulations 2008 document, which highlights changes to be made to the Care Standards Act 2000 on 1 October 2008 as a result of the Consultation.
A UK Department of Health spokesperson said, “In the light of the complexity presented by the responses to the Private and Voluntary Healthcare Consultation, the Department is giving further consideration to this aspect of its deregulatory proposals.” Jenny Driscoll, health campaigner at Which?, said she was delighted that the government had responded to consumer and industry response and urged it to look in-depth at the expanding aesthetic medicine industry.
“Current and future regulations must not only be effective and robust, but policed efficiently in clinics across the country, making sure consumers are protected,” she added.
