The medical board at the Children’s University Hospital Temple Street has begun texting as the latest means of disseminating important notices to its members.

At a medical board meeting on May 20, the use of the hospital texting system was approved to communicate matters regarding the medical board.

Chemical Pathologist Prof Philip Mayne, however, raised the concern that the texting system may be abused. The medical board agreed with Prof Mayne’s concerns and in turn agreed that the texting system should be reviewed in six months should this be the case.

Acting CEO of Temple Street, Ms Mona Baker, told Irish Medical Times that the texting system used by the medical board was due for review in October.

She added that the use of the system does not replace normal notifications, but was for use for ‘urgent messages only’.
