A fleet of at least 13 ambulances from Dublin Region, Order of Malta Ambulance Corps, brought relief to flood victims in the Athlone area last Sunday.
They carried relief aid to the people of Athlone and Ballinasloe in response to the St Vincent de Paul Society appeal for help, including foodstuffs, clothing, bedding and financial assistance to the flood victims.

Gardai escorted the convoy. On arrival in Athlone they were met by local St Vincent de Paul Society representatives and joined by Units of the Ambulance Corps from the Western and Midland Regions, to be escorted to the St Vincent de Paul warehouse in the centre of Athlone to unload the supplies.
Dr Patrick Kelly, who initiated the response, said: “While we are involved in relief work internationally in over 120 countries through Malteser International, our worldwide disaster and relief agency, it is important that we assist those who are suffering at home.”
