The Irish Hospital Consultants Association (IHCA) has cancelled its National Council meeting on 16 February, blaming the Health Service Executive (HSE) for “inaction” regarding the new consultant contract.
The meeting between the National Council and the Contract Negotiating Committee was called to discuss the detailed proposals from the HSE and to make a recommendation on them to members.
An IHCA spoksman stated: “The HSE has failed to produce a detailed consultants’ contract document since the two overnight negotiating sessions concluded on 23rd January. The momentum that was achieved that week is now being lost due to apparent inaction on the part of the HSE and Department of Health.”
The meeting has been rescheduled for 23 February.
“There is an onus on the HSE and the Department of Health to have furnished the anticipated contract documentation by then,” the spokesman said.
