The BJS states:
The chosen subject was a ground-breaking study from Ireland on Laparoscopic Lavage for Perforated Diverticulitis. In this practice-changing paper the authors outline a convincing argument for the new treatment of this problem with impressively better morbidity and mortality than traditional laparotomy with resection and colostomy. Not only did the patients have better outcomes, they avoided a stoma in the majority with no wound complications.
