Time to protest

Bookmark and Share

A number of trade unionists have called for the end of privatisation of the health services.
The most vocal of them is Jack O’Connor, general secretary of SIPTU, who told the Sunday Business Post that his preference would be for Labour to engage in talks with Fianna Fail to bring an end to the policy of co-locating private hospitals on public hospital grounds.

There are many members of SIPTU and other trade unions working in the health service.
In the 1970s, hundreds of thousands of trade union members marked through the streets of Dublin calling for a fairer tax regime.
Maybe the time has come for a nationwide day of protest to highlight the poor state of our health services
