Visitors to the Irish Medical Times website have indicated a resounding lack of confidence in the HSE in a recent online poll. The poll, which ran from January 10 to February 4, 2011, asked visitors: ‘Should the HSE now be considered a ‘failed experiment’?’ A total of 277 visitors cast their votes.
The breakdown of results makes grim reading for the Executive: 245 voters answered ‘Yes’, representing 88.4 per cent of the total; 17 voters replied that ‘the jury is still out’, accounting for 6.1 per cent; while just 15 voters — or 5.4 per cent — over a period of almost one month showed confidence in the Executive by voting ‘No’. These figures reveal that almost nine out of 10 visitors believe the HSE should be disbanded or radically changed.
Visitors now have the opportunity to make their opinions known ahead of the General Election with a new poll, which poses the question: ‘What party will get your first-preference vote in the upcoming election?’ The options are Fianna Fáil; Fine Gael; the Labour Party; Sinn Féin; the Green Party; Independents; or ‘I will not vote/will spoil my vote’.
